District Court is the largest unit in the District Attorney’s Office and handles the most serious and violent crimes, including murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, arson, robbery, and burglary.
There are 57 experienced prosecutors, 16 paralegals, 14 legal assistants and 3 restitution specialists, and a crime data analyst that serves both Teller and El Paso Counties. The 4th DA’s staff processes criminal dockets in 19 felony court divisions.
District Court is structured to serve victims seek justice. It includes specialty assignments such as Appeals, Extraditions, Sealing/Forfeitures, Restitution Units and Specialty Courts. The specialty courts are designed to expedite cases and to provide respondents the opportunity to address and manage problems.
