Colorado's 4th Judicial District Attorneys Office

Special Victims Unit

Created in 2005, the Special Victims Unit (SVU) is the first of its kind in the State of Colorado.  Eight Deputy District Attorneys are

assigned to handle cases committed by adult and juvenile offenders involving felony sexual assaults, felony child abuse, assaults

against the elderly, sex offender registration violations and homicides.

SVU’s Deputy District Attorneys are supported by three paralegals, two legal assistants, two victim advocates and three investigators.

The criminal justice system is unfamiliar and intimidating to many victims and can be formidable to go through alone.  To try to ensure that all victims are supported through the criminal process and their rights protected, the entire SVU team works closely with each victim from

the filing of charges completely through a guilty plea or trial and into post-conviction matters.

The District Attorney’s Office works closely with our local law enforcement and community partners to obtain available evidence within the case, to provide effective prosecutions of serious offenders, and to allow victims to be heard while upholding the rights of victims throughout the entire judicial process.
