Colorado's 4th Judicial District Attorneys Office

Victim Assistance Law Enforcement (VALE) Fund Grants

The Victim and Witness Assistance and Law Enforcement Fund (VALE) has been created specifically for the purpose of supporting and assisting victims and witnesses of crime. This is accomplished by awarding grants, through a competitive grant process, to programs that provide victim services and to assist law enforcement. VALE receives funding from court fees and fines that defendants are ordered to pay at the time of sentencing. The program works under the authority of C.R.S. 24-4.2-101.

The fund is administered by the District Attorney’s Office and governed by a Board that consists of 5 members, appointed by the Chief Judge of District Court. The Board reviews and makes funding decisions on grants submitted by agencies on a yearly basis. Regular business meetings are held to monitor and oversee the grants and conduct business of the board.

The grant application and funding priorities are posted on an annual basis in May. Funding decisions are typically announced by mid-October.

Additional information and a grant application are available by clicking the links below.

VALE grantees are required to submit quarterly reports notifying the Board of project progress, challenges, and financial expenditures. Grantees are also required to use the Board’s forms to request any changes to their grant contract. Approved forms can be accessed by clicking the links below.
